When Normandy Designer Ann Stockard met with these Naperville homeowners, they shared their wishes for a highly functional, packed with storage, show stopping kitchen. The resulting kitchen that Ann designed and built met the homeowners’ objectives and then some.
The white painted cabinets provide a crisp, timeless look, while the rich stained island provides a welcome contrast to the space. “Bringing the cabinet heights all the way to the ceiling provides additional storage space and makes the room feel taller,” says Ann. “Green granite countertops coordinate with the pale green subway tile in the backsplash, which also features a decorative bead board vertical tile and glass mosaic insets.”
One of the notable layout changes that Ann made was reconfiguring the shape of the island. The original island had an unusual shape that created a long distance between the prep area at the island and the sink and cook top. The new island shape has brought the prep area much closer to the sink, range and refrigerator, making meal preparation much quicker and more enjoyable. The shift in the island also allowed for the addition of a hutch cabinet for functional storage.
Lighting can have a dramatic impact on a kitchen, and this was no exception. Additional overhead lights were added to provide highly visible work surfaces. Decorative Swarovski crystal pendants over the island were carefully chosen to pick up the subtle amber hints in the mosaic glass accent tile, hardwood flooring and window trim. An amber dupioni silk chandelier over the table compliments the Swarovski pendants while coordinating and tying together the amber tones of the room.
The newly made over kitchen features a more user friendly layout, additional storage space, and a timeless look that will make it the show piece of the home for years to come.

Normandy Remodeling The paint color on the walls was chosen by the homeowner after our renovation was complete, so unfortunately I do not have any details on the shade they selected. I'm sorry that I don't have more detailed information for you and wish you the best of luck on finding the right color for your home.
Normandy Remodeling The question of whether or not it's OK to have stained woodwork with white cabinetry is one that comes up frequently with our clients. While it essentially comes down to a matter of personal preference, there are several options that people may consider when considering how to potentially combine painted cabinets with stained window and door trim.
One option would be to leave the stained window and door trim as it is, so that all the trim in the house matches and still use a painted cabinet (as you can see here). Some people prefer to just paint the trim in the room where the painted cabinetry will be, which works well if there is a natural break to the adjoining rooms that would add to the consistency of the space without the trim looking obviously mis-matched from nearby spaces. And lastly, some people use this as a good excuse to paint all the trim in their home, especially if they had not previously been a big fan of the stained look.
Again, this really does come down to personal preference, and as you can see here, this kitchen is a good example of how the finished product would look when combining the painted kitchen cabinets with a stained window trim.
Normandy Remodeling These barstools were supplied by the homeowner, so unfortunately I do not have any details on where they were sourced. I'm sorry that I don't have better information for you and wish you the best in finding a good barstool for your home.
Normandy Remodeling This particular mantle is 54" wide. Determining the proportional fit for any mantle will depend on many factors including the scale of the other elements in the room. Your kitchen designer should be able to help you create a solution that be in correct proportions to the rest of the cabinetry.
Normandy Remodeling The backsplash tile in this kitchen is made up of several different tiles that work together to create this look, and they are primarily: Crossville Savoy Beadboard in Gloss White Color, and Sonoma Stellar Series in Willow Color.
Carrara Marble This looks like Costa Esmeralda or it could also be Costa Oro (coast green to some.) Both are a pale green materail with a light yellow or white vein.
I like the style of this island. It would need an overlap at both ends for two more chairs. Would there be any room for drawers along with the dishwasher?
