Sheri Olson Architecture PLLC I love Benjamin Moore paint and used it here. The walls are Gray Horse, the ceiling is Decorator's White and the trim is White Dove. Thanks for the question.
dljmth Funny - I just painted a sample of Gray Horse to test it out. I love it, but it feels a bit too saturated for our North facing room. Looks much lighter here but you do have lots of white. Wondering is this full strength or did you do a reduction? Beautiful room!
Sheri Olson Architecture PLLC The bookshelves are custom and constructed out of wood lumber, trim and moulding and then painted. Hope this answers your question.
Sheri Olson Architecture PLLC I'm attaching a "before" picture so that you can see the existing fireplace was painted brick. My design added millwork (at a code-approved distance from the fireplace opening) and drywall. I had the exposed brick black. Thanks for the question.
Sheri Olson Architecture PLLC Thanks for your question. Proportions can make all the difference. I believe the ceiling height in this older home was 9 feet. We custom milled the crown molding to match the original and I think it was about 10 inches. The wainscot was about 5 feet. Just like fashion, its better to not have a 50/50 split.
Nancie Vollmer i have a god awful saltillo floor and i have my home office that has been left undone for 2 years I can't figure out how to get more storage, arrange a desk in it, color etc... i love your style
Sheri Olson Architecture PLLC Thanks, Nancy! Binding a piece of very low pile carpet might be a good solution for your office floor. I usually hold it back at least 12 inches from the wall and keep it in a simple rectangle. Depending on you storage needs in your office my go to places are Kartell (for modern pieces on wheels) , CB2 (the TPS file cabinet) and then West Elm or IKEA for simple white shelves. I also buy white stacking wood bins from the Container Store to keep projects easily available on shelves but organized. A good light is essential and I just bought classic clamp on Luxo lamps for my office. Let me know if you have more questions.
Where do I get the picture rail and mounting hardware? - We have a Craftsman-era house with wet-wall plaster and I absolutely hate poking holes in it to hang pictures. A proper picture rail would solve all my problems. :) »
Sheri Olson Architecture PLLC I agree with you on not making holes plus who knows if you might hit a live wire. The picture rail was in place and I had the contractor replicate it but The Joy of Moldings (http://thejoyofmoldings.com/picture-rail-107) has something similar. The hooks we used can be found on Amazon.com for $1.99 each from House of Antiques Hardware Plain Tapered Picture Rail Hook in Polished Nickel.
kenandjennifer When you ask the sales people for picture rail molding at your local molding store or lumber yard, you may have to be persistent, because I've rarely found a sales person (from Seattle to Detroit to Tucson) who knows what it is.
If "picture rail molding" gets you nowhere, then try "picture hanger" or just "hanger."
A molding & millwork retailer would be the first place to find it in stock, and could certainly order it for you if they don't stock it.
I love your design. Please tell me where the light fixture was purchased from and its name. - I love the design.
Please tell me the name of the light fixture and where it may be purchased.
Thank you. »
Form + Function This is definitely the floatation by German designer Ingo Maurer. We usually stock this fixture right here in Santa Fe, NM, since it is so popular and the lead time usually really long.

Sheri Olson Architecture PLLC Hi, It is Ingo Mauer's Flotation. I love this light (and its brilliant designer) because it has a wonderful presence and scale but is also light. The fixture has a counter weight on it so that it can be adjusted up and down. The paper shade diffuses the light and it can be placed on a dimmer allowing a wide variety of lighting in a room.
Sheri Olson Architecture PLLC Hi Nancy, I love Benjamin Moore paint and used it here. The walls are Gray Horse (pearl finish), the ceiling is Decorator's White (pearl finish) and the trim is White Dove (satin finish).
Best,
Sheri
