My interest is in the doors in the pictures and you offer nicnacks? - If you are going to offer recommendations, at least give me the chance to say no. »
If you prefer to keep the space open, try setting up a wall-mounted system near the door instead. A mirror hung above a floating cabinet is a foolproof combination. Having a few drawers is great for keeping messy piles of paper and other odds and ends out of sight.

If your space is too small to accommodate a bench or chair, consider a shelf with a mirror to anchor, define, and create an inviting entrance into your home.

while i like this idea for the small wall space beside door, i think if i add my Gap unit, lower shelf and afix a rectangular mirror to the ladder above it, it could serve same purpose ...hooks beneath shelf for bags .. too cluttered?
Style of the mirror with hanging shelf which frees up floor space. I would choose a different style for the shelf though. Excellent area to store phone, keys etc.
