Painted stairs - What kind of wood are treads that get painted? I am building a new house and would like an alternative to hardwood or carpet for the stairs. What is your opinion of the treads that cover the existing treads but are not recommended for staining? »
shoeman179 Stair Guy That is what I want to do but most covering treads are not stainable. What do you think of the replacement treads and are they as attractive as solid hardwood? I'm planning a wire brushed finish in a golden oak color.
Portland Stair Company Shoeman, try this link, it is to a company that sells an item called Quick Treads which can be stained and gotten in a few different wood species. The Quick tread can cover the entire tread and the also have risers. Another item if you don't want to cover the whole tread are called false tread caps or ends. They too can be stained and come in about 11 different wood species. We use these when a client wants to run carpet down the middle and have wood exposed on both sides or just one.
The pictures below are false tread & riser caps. One doesn't have the carpet to give you an idea who they work.
The design of the "Keep Calm and Carry On" poster is so simple, and the message so easily applied, it's no wonder that it's found a niche in decor — with companies slapping it on everything from mugs, to tea towels, to tablecloths. I love seeing it blown up on this bright blue rug.
Express your personality in a big way, show how interesting and fun you are, and make visitors feel welcome through a bold joyous rug. This one offers a terrific contrast against black-and-white flooring and becomes the focal point in unfurnished entry way. There is no piece of furniture that can add as much of a colorful punch of color and personality as this rug. Note the size of this rug is as wide as the door way. This is important because an entry way can have heavy traffic flow and you don't want any one tripping over the sides of a small rug as they pass through.
