Lumens Hi Lisa! The American Lighting Association recommends that the bottom of each pendant shade is approximately 66" above the floor so it is possible to look across the room below them. If the shades aren't very deep and there is seating at the island, they can be installed a few inches lower, like about 60" above the floor.

The general rule of thumb is usually one pendant for every two feet of counter space.
