We are soon going to pour a concrete walkway along the side of our house. I like the pavement here and would like to know how the surface was finished. Does it get slippery on rainy days?
any practical suggestion you have for us would be much appreciated,
sincerely,

Giulietti Schouten Architects I'm sorry that we did not get an answer to you sooner. I'm glad that you came up with a successful solution. I just spent three weeks in Italy and had a wonderful time. Where is your farmghouse located?

Unique mass plantings. If you have less space, or just want a fresh take on mass plantings, consider massing with container gardens. When it comes to massing, the sum is greater than its parts. Here you can see how both can act simultaneously. The planters may separate the individual plants, but stepping back to admire the entire space reveals a solid, linear mass of grass.

Here another strong line is created using grasslike sedges contained in planters. The shape of each clump of grass is a good contrast to all of those straight lines, yet they still add vertical elements that punctuate the wall.
Repetition is not limited to architectural elements; landscape can of course play a part. In this example, tall grasses in square metal planters march down the side of a house. The green softens the gray of the corrugated panels and concrete.
