CLAN INTERIOR DESIGN I dream of having a real fire in my home but I just cannot see it going to happen any time soon. As I have looked at the gas electric fires and in Australia they all come up with a big ticket price. I have looked and looked and its not as easy as you may think. Australians are just getting to see what the outside world have been using for the past ten years now. But as soon as it hits our waters for some reason it jumps up in price as in wall paper and items like that. I am from Scotland Edinburgh and have now lived in Australia going on 23 years and I just cannot believe the price of things that can be bought in the UK for nothing like we pay at this end it makes me mad. I would love to buy it as I say but I do not feel to good about having to take out a bank loan to get it. If you know there is away of me getting to buy a fire or anything ells at a much cheaper price I would love to know. You said good luck at the end of your message I think luck is what I will need. You can buy the ethanol type for outside and wall mounts on the internet but try to get a good size one in Perth its like trying to get blood from a stone. I get this all the time from my clients and I feel for them as they cannot understand why they see it on UK shows like 60 mins and yet No luck at this end. I do not mean to harp on but we need to all stand by each other on topics like this. J from Perth WA
Where is the cable box/DVR? - Where is the cable box/DVR? We want to put our tv on the fireplace, and I want a nice look without the box on the mantle. is the box behind the tv? »
COASTROAD Hearth & Patio It appears to be a slab mantel finished to match the rest of the wall, but there are a couple of tricks to this. You can create a shelf from a solid slab of wood, but it is likely to check (crack) as it ages, so a slab is not ideal for a nice, stained finish. The millwork/cabinet contractor can create the mantel by building a box with a hollowed out back, which can slip over a cleat attached to the wall framing. It's smart to mount the mantel before installing the stone veneer, so remember to make the mantel a little bit deeper, allowing for some to recess into the stone.
The first photo is a slab, the second photo is a box.
... only to be surprised that one of those panels is actually a door. Creating the same panel design on both sides of the fireplace balances the space, regardless of whether the left side opens as a door or not.
Who would even guess one of the panels opens? The hardware you choose needs to be completely invisible. For this type of door take a look at this invisible hinge from Soss.
This fireplace is what we like. The color of the stained wood mantle and random scattered rock all the way up. We would also like a few pieces of slate at the bottom base to match our entry slate.
