Renovated to accommodate a family of eight, this oceanfront home proudly overlooks the gateway to Marblehead Neck. This renovation preserves and highlights the character and charm of the existing circa 1900 gambrel while providing comfortable living for this large family. The finished product is a unique combination of fresh traditional, as exemplified by the contrast of the pool house interior and exterior.

Ladder to loft - We just built a house and last minute decided to add a loft. Now we need access to that loft. Where can you purchase that ladder, I really like it better than other things I have looked at. »
I love this pool house! Can I purchase the plans? Hire the builder? etc. - I live in San Diego and am getting ready to start construction on the back yard. My current design shows a generic pool house however I would love to put this next to the pool. »
Siemasko + Verbridge Thanks for the question! White paint is difficult, but when you find the right one you'll use it over and over. S+V prefers Benjamin Moore White Dove and uses it in almost every project for a basic white color. We may stray from it every once in awhile, but we always go right back. Hope that helps!
Ceiling height - I love this pool house. We are going to build a small cabin in Montana and would love to put in a loft similar to this. Do you mind telling me the ceiling height of this pool house? Thanks so much. »
Siemasko + Verbridge Thanks for your questions. It's about 18' from the floor to the underside of the ridge and about 8'-10" from the loft floor to the underside of the ridge.
Siemasko + Verbridge Thanks for your question! Yes, this house is local, located in Marblehead, MA. There is no bedroom, the loft sleeps up to two people.
What is the flooring in the kitchen area? - I'd like to find a good slip resistant (ADA) flooring for my parents for a bathroom renovation. I've been told travertine is slippery and others say it is good if its rustic with grout lines. I've also considered a porcelain wood look with lots of grain. Do you know of any good sources for a very real looking wood tile? What are your thoughts? »
Siemasko + Verbridge Thanks for your questions. The flooring in the kitchen is stained concrete. We like this Anne Sacks tile if you are looking for a porcelain wood look.
Siemasko + Verbridge Yes, this is a real home. This is actually the pool house, a place for the homeowners 6 kids to hang out in, and is extension of the main home.
Pipeline Supply-Decorative Hardware Division There are a few different styles of sliding library ladders out there. Ones that are all steel, ones that incorporate wood steps, along with a few different styles. I have sources for many different ones.
Emily Hurley That's a great question. I think I would see if I could find some Houzz photos that kind of matched the look I was going for and then try to track down those colors.
Siemasko + Verbridge The best colors really depends on your location and what type of beach house look you are going for. Bright white look great as well as subdued whites.
9. Create a loft. Defining separate areas on the main floor of this small cottage was achieved by creating differing ceiling heights. The kitchen was just made a little cozier with the flat ceiling ... then voilà! Sleeping quarters.
What a fun and functional space for teenagers. It's a lucky bunch of kids who get to hang in this beachy guesthouse, which includes a kitchenette, a loft space and sofas for lounging. All colors are ocean blue, green and white. It's a perfect pit stop for quick snacks between swims.
7. At the beach house. Because vacation homes often are crowded with guests, sleeping space can be at a premium. With ladder access, unused upper space can be transformed into a loft.
Love lime. Lime green is a bold hue, but when given plenty of white space to breathe it feels bracingly fresh. Try a graphic patterned rug or have slipcovers made for a chair or couch cushions.
5. Summer living in Massachusetts. This waterfront pool house has a smartly designed living space that can accommodate summer wear and tear. Its vinyl rug and tile flooring, for instance, can stand up to wet towels and dirty feet. A sleeping loft is perfect for naps on a warm afternoon.
