This sign does use a small solar panel with a light sensor for "dusk to dawn" operation. It is on a 15' lead so could be placed in any area that has the most sun within that range. If you are in an area that does not get good sun in the winter months, I would go with a higher wattage solar panel and larger battery to insure proper, consistent light output. Optionally, it could be wired to houzz-hold electricity!
