How is the fabric attached to the fleur sconce? - I am hoping to replicate this look in my formal living room, but my bay window is much smaller. Is the hardware a rod tieback and if so, how did you attach the fabric? Is the fabric pulled over the fleur or did you gather the fabric on top and then attach it to the wall or sconce? Thank you, it is a beautiful room! »
KARLA TRINCANELLO-CID - INTERIOR DECISIONS, INC. The hardware is a post back tie back. I fnish and lne the fabric and then drape over the post. I love the simplicity and elegance of the design and I like using it with woven shades. Note the posts and shades are installed high under the molding not the wndow frame. Also, I have done this treatment with bay windows and it is not a problem even if it is smaller. This is best installed by a window installer who will understand the installation if you show this photo. Good luck, Karla
Question RE Inside mount of these shades - To preface, I loved reading the conversations between Karla and Paddykk. Love Houzz for all it does and appreciate the designers etc who respond - so awesome.
Ok my question, I was looking at Conrad natural shades today. I am at a loss, go inside mount or outside like here in your picture.
We just had new window molding/casing/apron/sills done a couple days ago. I'd be disappointed to do outside mount as it would cover all molding when they'd be closed. They will be opened and closed daily. More so in cold snowy season.
The good thing about outside mount, it would help by not blocking our wonderful view (as much as inside mount). At least I assume so, the higher I mount them, the higher they will be when opened all the way?
The other thing, we have big windows. One is approx 14 feet, to soften the room, we are putting non usable panels on each side on a soft black rod.
Will it look funny to do outside mount above molding, then shade, then rod above that then crown molding above that? We have the space but is that to much going on?
I originally had my heart set on the twin shade by Horizon Window Fashion. They allow both shade and liner to be open or both closed or one open while other closed. Problem, with inside mount which I want, when they are completely pulled up (at least on our big window) they will fall 17.5 inches, that's A LOT of view blocking.
With a shade like you have here, is there a way to only lose 8-10 inches of window? Can I pull this off with inside mount with another company?
But I really want it all, I want inside mount, separate liner, very little view blocked, natural shade and no valance! yikes - sounds impossible.
Thank you for all your knowledge in advance.

KARLA TRINCANELLO-CID - INTERIOR DECISIONS, INC. Hi JB, Wow a lot info to read. To answer your main question, I prefer using outside mounted shades and install from the ceiling line down. Inside mounted shades outline the window and leave too much space above the window and project out as well from the casings. Regarding the casings, when the outside windows treatments are up (and under ceiling molding) the shades create a finished valance look which hide the space above the windows. When using the double liner, it is better to do an outside mount because of projection of liner with shade but it projects further. Side panels help to hide the projection. I personally very rarely specify inside mounted shades. If you want to send me photos of your space, I can give better information. Conrad is the premier manufacturer of woven shades. Hartman Forbes are also a good source and Castec has some very nice materials too and more budget minded. Email me at intdecinc@aol.com and provide your phone number as well.
Thank you,
Karla
I'm getting Hartman Forbes woven texture shades for my sliding doors. - Where do the pull cords hang in your setting? If I get motorized they seems to not fall close to the door/window casing. If I go without the motorized then the pull cord grows long when the blinds are up!!! I don't like the continuos loop metal bead look since that lives behind the blinds and a little inconvenient to operate - since you have to reach out behind the blinds!!! So any suggestions? Thanks for your time. »
KARLA TRINCANELLO-CID - INTERIOR DECISIONS, INC. Hi. I have been away for the holiday. Sorry to hear that the material you like is shorter than the window. This happens. The PapyrusWeave is lovely and yes it is a little sheer but possibly you can do a double shade so a plain roller can come down when you want privacy behind the woven shade. It extends the head rail though. Regarding the binding, maybe consider not doing binding, I rarely use it. Always, always, have the top of the header wrapped in the same material like a waterfall of the fabric over the header board so no valance is needed. As I mentioned, I so dislike valances. I love Hartmann Forbes but there are other fabricators, I just never head of Allustra. Does your supplier carry Castec Woven Shades? Good luck
paddykk Totally understand - hope you had a good break. My windows lady is on vacation for 10 days!!
Yes she has Castec Woven Shades. I will look into those once she gets back.
Alustra is from Hunter Douglas - their woven textured roman shades. Right now with Hartman Forbes the header with the waterfall look is only 3/4" which is perfect with my casing width of 5/8"th. - it falls right on it. Wonder how much further a roller would push the header forward. Have to wait until she gets back.
KARLA TRINCANELLO-CID - INTERIOR DECISIONS, INC. Hi,
It is my opinion that blinds would never give you the same design look and I do I use wood blinds in other designs but never to achieve a look like this. The woven shades are flatter and cover the window trim as well as the space above the window. The shade under the crown molding or ceiling line in effect emphasizes the height of the room. although even if the room were not as high, the higher the treatment, the higher the room feels. It is the end result that makes the look so decide if you want your windows to resemble this. There are plenty of companies that make woven shades if you want this feeling. If I had put the shade at the window top and showed the wall above, you would never get the same look as this room.

My best to you,

KARLA TRINCANELLO-CID - INTERIOR DECISIONS, INC. Yes it is still available. It is Century # 3982 and it is 60" diameter. There are a number of different leathers that are available and affect the price. The list price is about $4200. before discount.
Window and Fabric Works These appear to be either a Hunter Douglas or Horizon Shade product. Both companies put out a woven wood line. You'll have to contact a dealer in order to get information on purchasing.
KARLA TRINCANELLO-CID - INTERIOR DECISIONS, INC. Actually, the woven shades are manufactured by Conrad Shades in California and are a high end product because of the woven fabric used. There are similar shades like Hunter Douglass but these particular shades are a fine woven fiber made in Indonesia. The custom drapery panels are silk and the fnials are metal. Molding is not always necessary so don't worry abouat that.
