The combination of white painted cabinets, the richly-hued reclaimed cherry island and the stainless countertops and appliances all combine to give this kitchen a modern but warm farmhouse feeling.
familybythesea Thank you, I really like this house from your photos, great job! We are looking to rebuild in NJ after storm, interested in doing Post and beam/hybrid. Does your firm do "kits" in locations outside of VT to be finished locally?
Perkins Smith Design Build Gosh sorry to hear you were one of the storm victims. We actually used a local timber frame company for the frame and Perkins Smith did the rest. If you are interested we have a short story about the project in our portfolio magazine (and more pictures) which I am happy to send you. It includes the company we worked with if you want to contact them. Many timber frame companies travel and install the frame and then someone local takes over. This client had a timber frame company from Maine earmarked to do the job (7 hour drive away) and they approached us to be the local builders. Ironically, the client decided to use local Vermont wood (hemlock) instead of douglas fir so it made sense to use a local company. You can send your mailing address to admin@perkinssmith.com if you want me to mail the magazine.
Perkins Smith Design Build Sorry I cannot say - they were purchased by the owner. They did buy a lot of their fixtures from Hubbardton Forge. Thanks for asking!
Perkins Smith Design Build Did a bit of research and found that the kitchen stone flooring, which I believe is either slate or some kind of limestone, came from a place called Thorntree Warehouse which is in Texas and has a website where you can look at a variety of products. Surprised me - we usually go local for stone since we live in granite and slate country here in Vermont! I agree the contrast between the wood and stone is lovely.
Perkins Smith Design Build You know I don't think the ceiling is a 50% mix - just a ceiling whilte - but it is a great idea to create warmth and softness against all the wood.

jwarfield How much would it cost to do this kitchen without the appliances. My floor plan and needs are almost exactly what I see here....the huge island, simple off-white shaker cabinets, the corner micro, the farmhouse sink. Thanks for the information
Perkins Smith Design Build Impossible to really give an accurate number as so much of the work was custom done - $65,000 would probably be somewhat in the ballpark. The stainless countertops were all custom and were around $15,000, the cherry island was hand built from wood on the land, the kitchen cabs with no appliances came in @ $30,000 and the farmhouse sink with faucets was @ $2,000. This project was completed several years ago so I imagine everything has gone up. Hope this helps.
Tile floor transition to hardwood. Drop lights over island, simple clean kitchen with light colors that transition from white wood cabinets to SS then back to white wood, natural wood beams in ceiling, BIG wood island countertop.
Detecting a theme here -- like butcher block island; white cabinetry; slate grey counters; pendant lights over island are a nice touch. Also, like the sage green tiles here .. probably like the look more than wood floors.
