Kelli Kaufer Designs I had a 10' long island made out of wood and loved it - just make sure there is a heavy duty poly (food safe) on it if you don't want scratches. Think of boats, they are made out of wood! We have moved to a new/old home and am putting in butcher block for my island, I am not going to put a tough coat as I look forward to the nicks and dings.

L. Cramer Builders + Remodelers You make a good point - some clients like to preserve the look of the wood with a heavy food safe finish and others like the patina that age and use imparts. I hope you are enjoying your new/old home!
