6. Perform a Disappearing Act
Try using furniture made from non traditional materials. Items made of acrylic or lucite keep the area feeling light and reduces the visual weight in the space. When not in use, these pieces seem to just vanish into thin air.
Moroccan diamond rugs are a great alternative to heavier traditional rugs with lots of deep, brooding colors. The lightness and subtle pattern make them versatile and easy to coordinate with a variety of styles. They are especially adept at softening up clean, modern interiors.
Round tables are great for small spaces. They fit in tight spaces and have no sharp corners to bump into. You can usually fit more people around it because it has no corners. Pedestal tables are even better, as they offer more legroom. Add transparent acrylic chairs to show of a beautiful table and make a small room feel more spacious.
8. Lighten up with Lucite, crystal and glass. Clear objects take up very little visual space, which is a great benefit to those of us living in tight quarters. Try a small crystal chandelier, Lucite chairs or a glass-top table. Want bonus points? Add a mirror to the mix.
These are people after my own heart. They could have hung the chandelier right above the table, but instead they kept it close against the wall for an element of surprise. I can only wish my fixture were as cool as theirs is.
