bepsf There's a difference between "Matching" and "Coordinating"

When you purchase a set of furniture - That's "Matching" and that's boring.

However when you select pieces that coordinate and compliment one another you're looking for pieces that have some sort of common thread: Scale, Color, Style or Motif.

For example, an upholstered bed might have legs that are the same color as the nightstands in the same room...
...and the brass handles found on the nightstands might match the gilding on the carved frame of a mirror, and the shape of the handles might be in a lion motif that's repeated in the drapery tiebacks...
...the color of a flower in your draperies might match the solid-color of the bed upholstery as well as the trim on your bedside lampshades - and the fabric could be repeated in a throw pillow on a reading chair or as the welts on your upholstered bed...
...and the vintage dresser with the Chinese-Chippendale carvings might reference the shape of your upholstered headboard which is the silhouette of a Chinese Arch or Lantern.
