Remember, unless you go the faux hide route, cowhides are a natural product. No hide is the same. If you plan to purchase a hide online or by catalog, be aware that not all hides will look the same as the product shots. For a soft effect, hang sheers from a rod from wall to wall. Sheers do not use lining so they are less expensive to make, or buy readymade, and they do not look bulky when hung across a long window. I like the use of the grommets for long windows if not using a traverse rod because they keep a nice tall shape near the rod.

Consider sheer curtains. People feel the need to cover their windows with heavy drapery in the winter. While layers of fabric do add warmth, they can also block out what sunlight there is. Sheer curtains provide privacy and that same feeling of warmth without completely blocking the sun.

For a more industrial feel, using a stainless steel rod and industrial-sized grommets contrasts against the white sheers. During sunny days, the shades filter the light and act as a wall of light. Notice the play off the translucency of the chairs.
