Sarah Bernardy Design With any installation where moisture is an issue finish is always key for wood or painted surfaces. Talk to your painter/finisher or local paint store. By sharing your concerns they can help determine the proper way to seal the surface. Tile is likely the hardest surface.
moparbrownstoner It's totally fine but you cannot use bead board in the same way you use tile. The above picture where the bead board abutts the tile at the edge of the shower is a no-no because the water from the shower will penetrate the edge of the bead board and cause problems. Our entire bathroom is lined in bead board, but our clawfoot tub and shower are enclosed in a shower curtain, so the water does not touch the bead board directly. If you want a tiled shower, use the bead board in a separate area, such as around the toilet or a pedestal sink. Or you can use stone with a stone backsplash and bead board behind that.
