xO Design | Mi Ming Armchair

Design by Philippe Starck and Eugeni Quitllet, 2008.
By xO Design.Inspired by the classical Quanyi ('horseshoe' chair) characteristic of China's Ming Dynasty Period (1368 AD - 1644 AD), the stackable Mi Ming Armchair combines the modern transparency of polycarbonate with the lightness of gas-assisted injection-molding technology. The omega shaped armrest, or 'fushou', is available in White or Black mass-colored polycarbonate. While the Quanyi was once reserved for persons of high rank and social importance (scholars, officials, and other senior members of Chinese society), Mi Ming's transparent lightweight design is accessible and suitable for mainstream design lovers.
