Rebekah Zaveloff I'm not sure how they did it here, but if I were to do something like this, the two pieces wouldn't necessarily be glued together. The wood top would be screwed from underneath to the cabinets it sits on, and the ditto for the stainless steel one. A bean of clear silicone would be used between the two in order to avoid a crevasse from crumbs, but not to glue them together per se.

Replace your laminate counters with butcher block. This is a great and affordable fix that is well worth the effort of taking out the sink and hiring a plumber. Butcher block is natural, neutral and terrific. It may not be the best for the long term, depending on how well it's maintained, but if you're looking for something cheap and stylish, this is your answer.
