Residence Sausalito, California An urbane elegant home with a warm modern ambiance. The interiors are comfortable and playful, open to the expansive view of San Francisco Bay. The lot is a typical Sausalito hillside lot, small and sloping down from the street to the east. To the north is a sweeping view of Sausalito, looking much like a town on the Amalfi Coast of Italy. To the east and south an inspiring view sweeps from downtown San Francisco, across the Berkeley hills and Mount Diablo to Angel Island and Tiburon. The existing three-storey home was in a state of disrepair, and had been planned as a series of small dark rooms connected by a convoluted staircase. Our solution was to remove most of the interior walls through the use of structural steel, create a dramatic stair event, and open the exterior walls to the views. Mark English Architects, AIA These are a white oak, pickled, engineered floor. I don't find the manufacturer anymore, but I believe there are many other products like it. They are 6" wide boards.
"The crazy hanging light fixture, the pairing of styles between dining chairs and table, the eclectic, yet modern feel" (deidramae)
"Keeping to monochromatic white makes dining an even more relaxing experience. Order here is kept in the kitchen by elements like the clean lines of overhead lighting, and the drinking glasses below." (txranchgirl)

The kitchen's lack of wall cabinets takes the emphasis off the walls. Instead, the emphasis is on the enchanting, shimmering chandelier in the dining room next door, a very gracious dining spot, almost unbelievably just next to the kitchen. Again, why not?
A trend creating elegant ease and comfort is combining refined and rustic elements. Here a worn table is in beautiful contrast to the sleek light fixture.
