Emily Hurley That's a great question. It looks like this house is in Virginia. How does the humidity compare with where you are? I know some areas of the East coast actually get pretty humid.

Gardner Mohr Architects LLC This house is in Bethesda, Maryland, with average high and low relative humidity values ranging from 89% to 78%. The siding is cypress, not painted, but with a high-solids stain. Cypress is noted to be equivalent to redwood in its resistance to rot and insects. Cypress has natural preservative oil -- “cypressene” -- giving second-growth cypress a moderate resistance to insects and decay.

Gardner Mohr Architects LLC The material is a custom-milled cypress, stained with a high-solids stain.
