Sandra Howie Hi there,
Here is a previous answer I gave similar to yours.
You are right, good eye ! the counter was in set place as it was a temporary solution but we need to be raise it and support it for clearance per the manufacturers suggestion of an inch all around the machines.
The counter is 3/4" thick and the front edge is 1/1/2" thick to match the adjacent laminate flatwork counter.
Emily Hurley I think if you give some room between the top of the washer and the underside of the counter, you may be able to have a counter there after all.
There are so many great photos of counters over the front loading washer/dryers, but I have yet to find one that does not seem to be "staged".
A dryer can not be placed flat against a wall because of the vent hose and a washer almost always has the water knob behind or above it slightly which is an eyesore itself.
PLEASE help us find a picture of a counter that is functional AND pretty with instructions on how to build.
Most we have seen are just laid on top for "looks"!
Thanking you in advance!!! Lyne »
Sandra Howie Hello,
I understand your questions and yes no application is one size fits all. The vent hose is tucked in behind the machines and the counter is extra deep to cover the machines and the hose and water lines etc. To finish this off, there would be end panels and a middle panel supporting the counter with the counter built up for the clearances specified by the manufacturer and will make it so that it can be removed should the machines need to be serviced.
I would suggest that if you have any concerns how it would work to consult a contractor with your particular machines and counter material chosen. A heavy stone counter could be a different application than a lighter laminate counter.
Gorgeous! From the photo it appears that the counter top would conflict with opening the soap drawer of the washer. How thick is the MDF which was used as the top and how wide is the strip from which the lip is constructed? »

Anne DeCocco Ii think these are just standard white painted wood shelves--or could be laminate shelving--with white brackets. You can find similar ones in your big box home improvement store, sometime even Target and Walmart. It's how you use them that makes the difference! This is a great use in the laundry room, with the baskets keeping things neat.
First time renovator with my house down to studs.. Any ideas for wiring or conduit I should plan for? - First time home buyer and I'm working with a contractor to completely gut the house, insulate, and rebuild. With the house down to studs I know there is a lot that I can pre plan in addition to a tv in the Den and bedroom, and the location of my wifi router. Any ideas or suggestions for things to do? Thanks »
5. Add utility to your utility room. In the laundry room add simple shelving to keep all your essentials in reach. Laundry rooms are often forgotten in the decorating scheme, but when they are given a little attention these workhorses can easily become the belle of the ball.
With the help of tightly woven baskets and vintage tin containers, the laundry room becomes deceptively inviting. You may even stick around to fold a load before bed on the generous counter space. Any excuse to use the table lamp will do.
3. Shelving smarts. Evenly install shelves above your washer and dryer or over your folding station for well-dressed organization. Martha Stewart would be so proud!
3. Collect wicker baskets. Wicker baskets are a great staple for a rustic look and provide endless storage opportunities. If you're going for cohesive rather than collected, arrange baskets of the same size on shelving. If your space (or style) is little more higgledy-piggledy, buy varying sizes and slot them in where there's a gap.You can buy oversize baskets and display them by hanging them from the wall or the ceiling with metal hooks. Take them down to use for freshly folded sheets or as an extra laundry basket.
These are the IKEA shelves I was talking about. I think this would look great above your washer and dryer with coordinating baskets as shown here to store items that aren't always in use. It doesn't look cluttered to me. You could also have the bottom one wider than the top if you need to store larger items ...
Also like the countertop color ...
