Exciting Decor

Modern Bedroom, London

In Interior Design, as with clothes, styles go in and out of fashion. In this large six bedroomed house in Berkshire the new owners wanted to start the renovation with the master bedroom. It is a very large room with five windows and a door leading on to a balcony overlooking the garden. The bedroom’s décor reflected the fashions of the 1980’s with sponged paint effects of multiple colours, frilly pelmets and wallpaper borders. The clients wanted to create something more dramatic and less feminine with that ‘wow’ factor. It was large with plenty of natural light so in order to make the space more intimate we chose highly patterned Designer’s Guild wallpaper as the backdrop for the room. Whilst much of the other fabrics were a single neutral tone, they had texture as in the damask pattern in the James Hare silk fabrics and the stripe pattern in the Jacaranda carpet. The border on the curtains and pelmets and the fabric behind the glass cupboard doors gave us the opportunity to introduce black accents elsewhere in the room and the small design does not clash with large pattern on the walls. Often it is the finishing touches, which pull an interior design scheme together.
