Can you help me match the cabinet paint? - I have a sample of the Ash color from Restoration Hardware you said was used to paint the cabinets, but it looks nothing like the color in the picture. In the picture , the cabinets look white/off white...when I tried the color on a piece of my cabinet, it looks almost like a light brown/beige color. Was the color used mixed lighter? I think I read that you used Benjamin Moore and had it matched....is it possible to get the BM color match. It is truly a spectacular bathroom. Ours is almost done except for the color matching on the cabinet color. Thanks so much for your help!! »
JCA ARCHITECTS Sorry I took so long in getting back to you. The picture may be deceiving. It is the Restoration Hardware color Ash, which is a very pale gray/almost white color. I asked the painter what we did to get the color. I remember it was quite a bit of work. Unlike most of the big paint companies, Restoration Hardware, at that time, did not give out its color component make-up. As a result, we had to rely on computer and eye matching. We just kept working at it until we got it right. I read a few forums today that said that Benjamin Moore does now have the color combinations to get Restoration paint matched correctly.
I would not say that the Ash color was brown or beige in this room, but it gets A LOT of light so it may different in your environment. All that said, if you think that the Ash color is wrong you may want to look at the Benjamin Moore 'OC' number color lines and the Affinity colors. They have some great whites. OC-17 is a very soft white. I think it is the perfect white that is almost the color of milk. 2143-70 almost white is a very pure white color. AF-15 Steam is a great light gray/white color. 968 Dune White is pretty.
Sorry for rambling. I hope that helps a little. Good luck with your project!
margotgonz I just have to say, you are so amazing in your guidance and the willingness to share your knowledge. Thank you so very much for all the information. There is no greater compliment than when others seek to replicate something that you've done artistically...especially if it brings joy and beauty into people's lives...and no greater good than the graciousness to share that knowledge. Best regards, ML
JCA ARCHITECTS Thanks. Toilet and sinks are white. The toilet is a Toto toilet that was purchased from Waterworks. They now are making their own brand, so probably best to get direct from Toto. Make sure you specify hard piping to the toilet supply. It makes all the difference in appearance (as good as a toilet can be anyway). Sinks are from Kallista. Tub is from Wateworks. Hope that helps.
JCA ARCHITECTS Thanks. The cabinets are custom made from a local millworker. The doors and drawer fronts are from Cal Door. The paint color is Restoration Hardware, Ash.
JCA ARCHITECTS One duplex outlet is in the center of the backsplash set horizontally (hidden by towels in picture). There are also outlets in the towers at each side.
JCA ARCHITECTS So sorry for taking so long to get back to you. The vanity/sink portion of the base cabinet is 22". It steps back slighty at each side where the drawers are to 19.5". The towers at each side are 16" deep and approximately that same width.
JCA ARCHITECTS Hello. If you go to my company photos for this project (JCA Architects, Inc.) you will see a partial picture taken from outside the shower. We used the same border that is on the floor on the wall of the shower and we used 6x12 Calcatta marble in a brick set pattern for the rest.
JCA ARCHITECTS The mirrors are standard plate glass mirrors with a 1" bevel edge. They were made by a local glass manufacturer (quite inexpensive). The painted wood panels around that match the cabinetry sit proud of the mirror by about 1/8". At the bottom they sit on the 4" high backsplash ledge.
JCA ARCHITECTS Thanks! Here is a glimpse of the shower. It was separate and rather large, about 66"x42". The border on the floor in the vanity shot is the same border in the shower.
JCA ARCHITECTS The walls are Restoration Hardware Paint - Graphite. If you do not have access to Restoration Hardware paint, a very close color is Benjamin Moore Pashmina AF-100. The Restoration Hardware color is a bit cooler gray and the Benjamin Moore color a bit warmer. Hope that helps!
love this bathroom !! Can you tell me who and where I can get this decorative floor tile ??Thankyou - The tile makes the floor look like a centerpiece. I would like to try to do
this in my masterbath remoldel. »
JCA ARCHITECTS The border is a preset design from Waterworks (Olivia Petit Border). We customized the color with two materials; Calcutta marble and Roman Blue marble. The outer field tile is 16"x16" straight set Calcutta and the inset field tile is 12"x12" brick set Calcutta. We used the same Waterworks border detail in the shower. Good luck with your project!
JCA ARCHITECTS I am not sure offhand as it was lumped together. I would estimate about 350.00 a linear foot. It was about nine and a half feet long, $ 3,325.00. Painting would be another $ 500.00 and install another $500.00. A fair estimate would $ 4,300.00 to $ 4,500.00 dollars. I hope that helps.
Do these sciences provide enough light for makeup? - I love the sconces but upon researching found they take 60 watt max. Does that provide ample light for makeup application, shaving, etc. or is there a separate place for that in this room? Or are there recessed cans I can't see? THANK YOU for your help. I'm leaning toward sconces that take 100 watt bulbs, as well as a can over each sink. I need to be able to see those little chin hairs I have to pluck! (please be honest and tell me if my plan too much lighting for that space:) »
vkmcneil JCA, thank you so much for such great detail. I am shocked no one else asked about the lighted make-up mirror you installed inside the tower (sorry if they did and I missed it). Is it possible to get a picture of that? I can't even image what it looked like. Is it installed on the inside of the door?
JCA ARCHITECTS Sorry for the delayed response to you message. Believe it or not it was just a hardwired/lighting standard swing arm wall mirror that attached to the inside wall of the cabinet. Pretty low-tech, but it did the job. Wish I had a picture, unfortunately I don't.
JCA ARCHITECTS Hi. That is difficult to analyze without knowing fixture, ceiling height, etc. However, I would say as a rule of thumb if proportion allows, I like the scones to be placed at a height that illuminate the face. Typically this is between 60"-66" depending on where the electrical base is relative to the fixture. Another factor to consider is type of sconce. With shaded sconces I don't like to look up to the underside or "guts" of the fixture (e.g. bulb, etc). That is not so much a consideration with enclosed sconces. Hope that helps!
JCA ARCHITECTS Thank you. The cabinets are color matched to Restoration Hardware paint - Ash (satin finish). We used Benjamn Moore for the color match.
JCA ARCHITECTS It is a pocket door with a frosted French panel. It is not really a big room I think the camera angle is really distorting. The room is 3'-2" wide by 5'-6" deep. The door is a 2'-4" door.
JCA ARCHITECTS The mirrors are standard flat plate glass with a 1" bevel around. They are inset in to the custom wood framing around that was made by the cabinet maker. They measure about 22" wide by 36" tall.
smilersgirl Can you please tell me the height of the unit - is it 8' or 9'? Also what are the dimensions of the drawers and doors for the center portion of the vanity? Thank you in advance!!
JCA ARCHITECTS The border is a preset design from Waterworks (Olivia Petit Border). We customized the color out of Calcutta marble and Roman Blue marble. The outer field tile is 16"x16" Calcutta and the inset field tile is 12"x12" Calcutta. We used the same border detail in the shower.
Fabulous space! Need help with recessed lighting. - I have an 8' 4" vanity in 3 sections - sink, sit-down vanity, sink. I'll have 4 100 watt sconces on the sides of 3 mirrors surrounded by trim that matches the cabinets. I have a sloped ceiling and plan to use 3, 4" gimbal ring recessed cans to augment lighting. What type of light should be used and how far from the mirror should they be? I'm worried about having enough light because I am accustomed to the 400 watts of Hollywood lights I'm replacing. Thank you for any help you can give! »
Perfect space! Need lighting advice - How far out from the mirror should I install the overhead can lights that I need to supplement the sconce lighting? My 8 ft. Vanity is broken into 3 sections ( 36" sink, sit down makeup area, and sink). And how many 4" can should o use - 3 or 4? I will have 4 sconces at 60 watts each. The problem is that I am replacing "Hollywood " lights that have 400 watts! What a change! Your room is fabulous! Thank you in advance for any help you could give me! »
This is a great vanity.
I have a variant in mind that instead of having the paneled wall has tile in there (perhaps one of the larger format WZ tiles).
