The square footage on just the center of the house - I am planning on possibly adding on or building. I absolutely love this and would like to know the square footage on just the main part of the house. I don't need it but so big so I would not be adding the side additions. Thanks so much in advance for your answer and for building such a beautiful home for us all to see.

RJ Elder Design Thank you for your compliments. The square footage of the first floor and second floor of just the center portion of the house is approximately 3,900 sf.
RJ Elder Design Suzette........It depends on the program of spaces that you desire. The upstairs contains an extra guest suite, bonus room and conditioned storage. The first floor has two bedrooms with a Jack & Jill bathroom, a large master suite, study, living, kitchen, dining, sun room, powder room and utility room. This particular design is not for sale, but if you are looking for something similar to this I would be happy to discuss the specifics of your project.
RJ Elder Design I would recommend a material called "Correct Porch." It is a synthetic material, but very authentic looking and more durable than typical t&g wood.
I would like to know what kind of brick would you choose for under the porch. - I would like to know what kind of brick would go with this house and its colors. »
rdebnam I'd use brick the color of the shutters or the roof?? Or maybe white..that would lift it off the ground..giving the house more height. Why not make copies and use some color markers to play with.
RJ Elder Design Anything with an earthier natural color to it. You can sometimes get away with bricks that have more of a red tone similar to Old St. Louis. Hope this helps.
RJ Elder Design Sorry for the delay in response. The second floor is quite spacious. It has close to 2,000 sf of heated/cooled space. Most of it used as a large workout space with a treadmill, stair climber and elliptical machine in each of the windows in the front dormers. There is also a bedroom with full bath, an office area, and large conditioned storage space. Hope this helps.
RJ Elder Design The front door was custom made out of antique cypress by a local millwork shop. The shutters were ordered online by the client and were a fixed louver type made of a composite material. Here is a link to a great source for shutters of this type:
I'm currently building a similar house in New Orleans. Can you tell what the roof color is and also if the siding is white?
In my neighborhood most white homes have a grey roof, I was thinking about venturing to a wedge-wood color. Thought? »
bepsf Personally, I'd lean towards a standing seam metal roof - they're long lasting, weather storms well and are characteristic of New Orleans and this style home.
RJ Elder Design The roof shingles on this project were "GAF - Grand Slate - Aged Oak" with Hecker Ridge tiles (V-Ridge). The lap siding is "Bauhaus Buff SW7552" and the trim & columns are "West Highland White SW7566" from Sherwin-Williams. Hope this helps.
Kelly Porter The color of your shutters and front door do not need to match. In fact, it's best to use two very different colors so there is no mistaking that you used different colors on purpose.
RJ Elder Design On this particular design, the color of the shutters was an Olive green and the front door was chocolate stained antique cypress. In the region this house is located (60 miles east of New Orleans), this color combonation is quite common.
Another potential idea for home office, walkway off to left to extra little room... maybe to make symmetrical match to opposite side of house as garage?
