Dzignit, Patrice Greene HI, I design all overhangs to at least 14". Sometimes they have corbels for extra support and other times flat steel rods are placed into the plywood substrate for the weight of the cantilevered overhang and then no corbel support is needed.
Dzignit, Patrice Greene The island height is 36" (same as a typical counter). Bar stools are "counter-height" and typically at approximately 26". Patrice :)
Dzignit, Patrice Greene My apologies for the late response on this....I just found all of these questions to answer :(
The pendants were found by the homeowner in San Francisco at an antiques shop. They had hideous wire and chains and Dzignit had them re-worked with the stems as pendants. So, though I doubt you would find the exact same item, at least you know it may be possible to find something old and re-purpose it with contemporary flare. Take care, Patrice

Dzignit, Patrice Greene My apologies, I just found your question. :( The island is 3'-8" x 5'-8". I determine island sizes by the clearance needed around them for walk-ways and workspace.
