These pendants are lovely, I have been looking all over the internet but couldn't find them. These will complete my kitchen and I appreciate a response on where to find them. »
I know most people do white cabinets and a darker island...what island color would you do if you were doing espresso shaker cabs (contemporary handles)...or should I just do all dark cabs....? »
hilltop1155 I think a color-stained island with espresso cabinets is a lovely complement. If you're concerned about trapping yourself with a color, you can also do a different stain on the island using the same type of cabinet doors. Your cabinetmaker may be able to do a 3D rendering using software so you can get a feel for the final result before you commit.
jmmmlake I am afraid of the commitment to color...but I'm also needing to know for sure what I am doing as far as countertops/backsplash before determining what I want to do with the island...I was just thinking doing all the same would be boring...when I see it done with white cabs and brown island...I love it!! Didnt know if doing the opposite would have the same feel..I'm not in love with the one shown above...I think for me the white may be too white...just thought I would ask a professional...thanks for your input!!!
Rebekah Zaveloff | KitchenLab The island counter looks like Calcatta marble, whereas the perimeter looks like a limestone or solid surface material like Silestone or Caesarstone.
did you need support for the marble counter overhang - I am putting marble on my island with an overhang for an eating area. Did you need any support for the marble countertop that overhangs the island, like brackets or something. I don't see anything in the picture and it looks so pretty without any brackets or legs. »
The play of grays and whites is every effective in this kitchen design. The dark gray cabinetry is balanced by the island, with its lighter tone and cabinetry detail. The marble on the island brings it all together, as does the multi-toned tile selected for the backsplash. The lighter steel gray barstools are a perfect choice, while the glass pendants bring in a reflective quality.
It's hard to have anything take the spotlight away from calacatta marble, but the diamond-patterned cabinet doors on this island can hold their own in this kitchen.
Metal. It's an easy choice for counter stools in a kitchen because it's a great material for easy clean-up. Plus, metal stools are often pretty affordable in the scheme of things. Here, the metal balances out all that wood and allows for a more contemporary pendant to work. I love the contrast of these industrial and modern touches against the more traditional cabinetry. These stools are backless, and therefore don't dominate the island — they tuck nicely under the overhang. Mostly likely, if the stools were any bigger, say with arms or upholstered, you wouldn't be able to fit four of them, and that lovely butcher block top would have been sacrificed.
