pallet - hi just wondering did you place a backing and how did you do shelving (partitioning) to the pallet in order to put the plants in more than one row. I am guessing that the petunias completely cover the pallet when the are fully grown and cascading? »

Although she had plenty of potted plants in the space, she wanted something more. "I love vertical gardening," she says. "But it can be difficult when you rent. The pallet is the perfect solution. It's easy to move, and you'll still get your deposit back when you leave."Photo courtesy of Rum Kihn
Vertical gardens are all the rage. This one, created out of an old wooden pallet, is wall and planter in one. I don't love these particular plants — I would go with herbs — but it's still a great idea.

A wooden shipping palette forms a growing wall for petunias. I want to paint it or weather it in some way beyond this...and fill it with fern and lusher planting.

I think this would be beautiful if you painted the pallet white or even stained the pallet a dark color.
You can get pallets free sometimes if you just look around.
