fiwisyd I'm in Sydney, Australia, so I'd need to describe these to a door company - it looks as though there is no fixed panel, but all the doors can slide so any part of the room can be opened up (but not all at once) - is this correct? Many thanks.
fleetwood system - we are interested in the multitrack sliding door system and there are not many others in the market that offer this product in our area. are you able to tell me roughly much this system costs per linear foot? »
Big sliding doors in the kitchen open up both walls in this space. Like most of the other rooms, the kitchen gets natural light from all sides. Full-height glazing allows light to pour in from the south, filtered by bamboo along the property line. A partition separates the entry hall from the kitchen but doesn't reach all the way to the ceiling, allowing light to enter from the front of the house.
Natural DaylightReduce your need for artificial light and take advantage of natural daylight as a cost-free way to illuminate your kitchen during daytime hours. Besides, who doesn't love a gorgeous light-filled space?North- and south-facing windows are optimal for bringing in natural light. Northern light is softer and unaccompanied by glare or direct light (which brings with it heat). South-facing windows can introduce direct light, but that light is easy to control with short exterior overhangs designed to keep direct light out during hotter months. The daylight (and associated heat gain) from east- and west-facing windows is the toughest to control but can be counteracted with exterior vegetation or window coverings.
3. Natural light. The right lightbulb can help you reduce your electric bill and your carbon footprint. But embracing the sunlight might be the best thing you can do for your kitchen's lighting. Get the guide: Ecofriendly Kitchen: Light Your Kitchen Right
example of recessed track system for rolling (sliding) track door system. seen from both inside and outside, the track disappears into the ceiling. also notice the guide tracks in the floor. i try to avoid these in areas where leaves or grass are present..but on a rooftop..especially when covered by an overhang, they are not much trouble to keep clean (just run a vaccuuum extension wand over them).
