hartsong4him After seeing my friend's beautifully painted cabinets, we used what she recommended: Benjamin Moore's "ADVANCE" line. It's a leveling paint and worked beautifully on our 60 year old cabinets. We used a satin finish, but it comes in other finishes as well.
Tervola Designs The Antique White is what the cabinet manufacturer uses. It is not a paint color you can buy yourself. The cabinet line was Nickels. I do not have the wall pant color on file but Valspar's Tea Light is a similar color.
Rebekah Zaveloff | KitchenLab that looks like wood top for sure, maybe cherry or mahogany. There's a product called Waterlox that's used for protecting wood tops that's pretty terrific.
Cynthia Taylor-Luce Yes, my cabinet maker says over 90% of the kitchens he builds are white, mostly 'Cloud White' by Benjamin Moore! However, personally, I prefer a hint of colour which ties in colours in the rest of the house. I recently designed a kitchen with cabinets painted in a medium grey/green and it's gorgeous. The floor is black tile with silver accent strips between the tiles, and the counter is white engineered stone with black/grey/purple/mustard "sprinkles" (from Italy). The doors above the fridge are framed in brushed stainless steel with texture glass inserts.
If you love white kitchens and want to live and work in one for years to come, then choose white. But if you think you'd be bored after a while, try choosing a colour!
By the way, as a colour consultant myself, I find white cabinets limiting because I feel I have to stick with that same tone for the woodwork elsewhere in the house, when I'd really prefer to choose a deeper white that tones with the new wall colours. That's also why I wouldn't buy white appliances--too WHITE!
storklady Your kitchen sounds beautiful ctaylor. I've seen grey/green and black together in a kitchen. I know the silver accents are beautiful. I love silver. I'd love to see your kitchen. It's interesting how we are all so different when it comes to design. I've never considered white kitchen cabinets boring because you can change wall paint, fabrics and accents and completely change the way it looks. I agree with your take on white appliances.
A wooden countertop on the island is a popular way to add some natural grain to the mix. Personally, I don't love wood next to water sources (stains, mildew and warping), but I do love a big slab of shining wood in the middle of a kitchen.
