Tervola Designs The interior floor is Ipe wood and the lanai (outdoor) flooring is a hardwood that is substituted for Ipe. It has better lengths and has a fastening system for installation.
You can either use the exact same flooring material inside and outside as in the previous photos, or you can use materials so similar that they minimize the change and have the same feel.
In this home, the interior hardwood and the decking material are the same color, but the hardwood has more shine. They are both laid the same direction and the tracks for the sliding doors blend right in. It's still barely noticeable where the inside stops and the outside starts.
2. The LanaiThe outdoor roofed patio, or lanai, is the heart center of the Hawaiian home. "It's where family members and guests can recline on the pune'e [couch or daybed]. Much of the family's dining and entertaining activities are had in the lanai given the year-round tropical weather," says Tervola.
I want the kitchen to be more open to the outdoors, but these sliding doors are the perfect solution to the need for an air conditionable dining space.
