Does Steam shower work well with high vaulted ceiling and skylight? - I have the same setup in mind but my contractor is advising against the skylight saying that the steam shower will not properly work because the steam will get lost in such a big space. Would truly appreciate any advice. I so love this look and would love any insight into special modifications (to steam unit, tile..) and if it worked well for this homeowner. »
superstraw ThermaSol has a PRO Series generator that can steam a room up to 1150 cubic feet. That should cover your 10' ceiling and then some. Check out the light and music system as well. It is the best on the market. Lifetime warranty also.
Any advice on how to make the transition between the field tile and the accent as seamless as possible? The accent we have selected is thinner and would I think need more of a setting bed to bring it out to the face of the field tile. How do you keep it on plane? Thank you! »
Jason Ball Interiors, LLC Yes, that is exactly the way to do it. Sometimes a tile setter will set all the field tile and then put down a layer of thin set, let that dry and then put down the thinner tile. Building up the base is the key. If it's really complicated, you might want to find a tile setter in your area.
eejay Thank you for your quick reply! That's a good suggestion. We are getting bids and one of the contractors commented that most likely the transition wouldn't be perfect (preparing me). I'm still talking to others so will definitely see how they reply to the question.
Vertical accent stripes mimic cascading shower water. Also, note the way the stripes line up with the edges of the skylight. This ties this opening all the way into the tub.
Add a vaulted ceiling and skylight. In this steam shower/tub, the homeowner really wanted full access to the sky. Sunlight pours in during the day and at night, she can look up at the stars while enjoying a good steam. Doesn't get much better than that.More:Sliding Walls Bring the Outside InBathe in the Light of Clerestory WindowsThe Case for Interior CourtyardsTranslucent Surfaces: A Canvas for Light and Shadow

I love the light color of the wall tile, and the vertical accent tile band. I think we should do something like with the niche tucked into the accent band. Very cool!
