I've been told not to install natural stone in our steam shower due to the porous nature of stone and it's potential for fungus growth within the pores; supposedly, sealer is not a sure way to prevent the problem with the opening and closing of the pores between steaming sessions, thereby compromising the longevity of sealer. Would you agree? »
Media Decor We have very similar set up with marble. After time fungus did appear and was messy to clean up. Basically if you can leave the door cracked open and have some sort of ventilation, the problem is greatly alleviated.
The grout was all removed and replaced with an elastic sealer. The place to really pay attention to is the the joint between the side of the floor and the wall. If moisture creeps down there it can create a hotbed for larvae and flies and is a pain to get rid of. It did work for us, but expect to redo it every few years.
