Heimsath Architects It is an original oil painting by Clovis Heimsath. Clovis and his wife Maryann started Heimsath Architects some 50+ years ago. They are still active in the firm when they are not traveling, running the Country Place Hotel (a bed and breakfast in Fayetteville Texas), painting, gardening etc. You can see more of his art at www.clovisheimsathartist.com. This particular painting is of a shed on Little Cranberry Island which is just off of Mount Desert Island in Maine--both the Heimsaths and my family enjoy visiting the Maine coast in late summer to escape the Texas heat.
Heimsath Architects They look at lot like the colors in the picture--they are bold colors on a neutral base (which allows them to now exactly match surrounding colors). It is from Carte and Barrel I believe so you should be able to get other views online.
Are those narrow doors on the sides? - They don't appear to have handles but I can't tell. The cat in the photo adds to the mystery - is he about to walk out the door or is he looking out of a large pane of glass? Very clever/unique either way! »
Heimsath Architects They are narrow doors, though they do not have handles. They are secured by throw bolts at the top and bottom. The purpose of the side doors is to be able to open them to allow breezes to move through the house (there are screens to prevent the cat and pesky insects from doing similarly) without having to have a screen door on the main door of the house.
Heimsath Architects It is a hand-me-down (it was the hall table in the previous house for years)... Fortunately, it just worked perfectly when we placed it (it was supposed to be a place holder). Unfortunately, that means I have know idea where it came from.
Heimsath Architects We had it made at a custom door shop called The Grand Door Company in Bryan, Texas. I have used them twice and been very happy with the results.
Heimsath Architects Crate & Barrel (I believe it is called Mariah). We really like it because it gives us a good deal of color, but isn't a overwhelming color to clash with the other colors in the house. It is also nice and thick. One drawback is that we had to shave the door and raise the threshold to get the door to swing over it.
