Great fireplace and TV layout, just a few questions - Where did you get the mantel shelf? What are the dimensions? Do you have any problems with heat affecting the flat screen tv?
We are looking for the exact same setup, a nice fireplace design that also accommodates a TV at the right height. »
Veranda Estate Homes & Interiors The mantle was custom made by our finishers. We do not have the dimensions any longer, this home was built 5 years ago. And no, no issues with heat / TV.
painted trim and Stained woodwork - Hi! I absolutely love this house. We are building a house and I am having Atrouble with deciding on how to mix the painted wood with the stained. Is there any general rule? Or something to avoid doing? What did you do for the interior doors? Would painted trim and a dark stain door look okay together? Thanks so much! »
Veranda Estate Homes & Interiors Winslow Grey is a color from Pratt & Lambert, the code is 2270. The stain on the beams was a custom mix, you could go with a walnut for a similar effect.
btol That's a very frequent question that I investigated very carefully before mounting a 50" plasma. Here's what I found:
-Building code requires combustible items be no less than 6" from the opening of the fp. And with each additional inch of clearance (beyond the 6"), the combustible item can protrude by an increasingly greater distance. A quick check on Google or sites like Fine Home Building can give you code specifics, or talk to your local building inspector.
-Wrt to temps, during a Chicago winter I piled on logs and the temp never exceeded 72 degrees above the mantle, so that's a non-issue despite popular opinion. However you configuration may be different but you can do a simple test by placing your hand over the mantle to judge.
-I used lag bolts and anchors to secure the tv into the bricks and tuckpointinng. Lag bolts are typically rated at 25-75lbs each, and your mounting bracket usually requires at least 3 bolts. So don't skimp on the bolts and make sure they are secure when tightened. If need-be, construction caulk (esp the kind used for masonry work) may aid you in securing the bolts.
As the other poster said, the fp is the focal point of the room. Although the TV is a few inches higher than we are accustomed, the appearance is stunning and has a refined look.
Veranda Estate Homes & Interiors It is fine as long as you follow the guidelines and code requirements for the fireplace install and if you are worried about the heat install a fan on the fireplace unit.
Veranda Estate Homes & Interiors To be honest I have no idea, we picked them up at a store called HomeSense which is like your Home Goods in the states. I am sorry I do not have more information for you. If I come across anything similar I will be sure to send you a note. :)
Veranda Estate Homes & Interiors The wall color is Pratt & Lambert Winslow Gray and the room dimension is 20' wide x 21' deep (the built-ins & fireplace are 2' deep).
hhase Do these dimensions include the 2 feet for the fireplace, and include a walkway to the right and behind the sofa? Or are these dimenstions only the sitting space? Thank you.
Christina Matassini I love the beams. Did it all at give the effect of a "lower" ceiling height? We're designing our home and trying to decide whether to stain the beams in our living room a color similar to the photo or paint them white. Our ceiling height is 10'.
I love everything about this fireplace, I feel like it is spot on with what we had spoke about. I even like the the fireplace insert and floating mantel.
