Garrett Churchill Inc. Not silly at all. Depending on the amount of rain it could temporarily. There is an overflow pipe in the pond that when the water level gets too high the water runs by gravity out of the pond. If we have a really hard fast rain the water level will rise and possibly get itno the grass area but it is short lived.
If you're really stuck on the idea of having a plant that requires a lot of water, creating a small pond or bog could save you a lot of watering time (and money) in the long run. Be sure to only do this for plants that really need a lot of moisture, otherwise the wet area could actually overwater and kill them.
Irises can be planted in any type of soil, but they love the water. In fact, they can even be planted in shallow water — Japanese and Louisiana irises are particularly good for water planting.
