Loft & Condo - Kitchen

This historic space has served many purposes over its long life, including a meeting place for business men and women, and a masonic lodge. Now it is a living quarters - featuring a stage, a basketball hoop and movie screen that descend from the ceiling, and a marquee where the owner can display his thoughts. In the kitchen, we were able to salvage, refurbish and reuse the original metal cabinets from the masonic lodge. Photo by John Weiss.

Thanks! The counter top on the right is stainless steel (think commercial kitchen) and on the left it is soapstone. Soapstone is not for everyone - most people recommend putting mineral oil on it, and not everyone wants to do that. Talk to your contractor and your stone retailer about the pros and cons before buying it. Here's another kitchen we recently finished where we also used soapstone.
