Kenny Craft, CNU LEED AP In this situation, the stairs were concrete, so the grout was laid on the concrete substrate. I think it could be done over wood, but might need some kind of "durarock" substrate protecting the wood from moisture. I'm attaching an example of tile on wood stairs, although it is an interior application...

Kenny Craft, CNU LEED AP It happens to be the Owner of the House, Kris Selby, who has a decorative tile company based in Tucson AZ. (www.decorativetileworks.com). She did all of the tile for the project...
