Master bathroom addition. With a little reworking of walls and closets, we were able to add a master bathroom and walk-in closet. The bathroom is simple - double vanity and a large walk-in shower with full glass enclosure. Tile work in the shower and on the floor makes this a luxurious master retreat.
What is the minimum width for a toilet area? Is 24 inches too tight? We are not big/wide people. I'm wondering the width from the wall to the shower in the picture I'm looking at now. »
Bill Fry Construction - Wm. H. Fry Const. Co. 24 inches is too tight.
Check with your local building department.
Kohler recommends 16 inches from centerline, so that would make 32 total (others recommend from 15 to 18): http://www.us.kohler.com/designkb/designcenter/spaceplanning.jsp Also consider clearance needed for wheelchair access and for resale.

Not bad -- but with solid front wall and open top somehow. It's going to be a tight fit and the door will have to be closed so I think the open top would help with ventilation.
interesting to consider why this looks so so terrible... probably paint color, lack of ceiling moulding, and lack of wall wainscot tile, possibly poor overhead lighting...
