Land Architects, Inc. It is pachysandra and boxwod. They do well in full sun - with lots of watering (these are planted in full sun). The owner meticulously trims to keep them in that layered height look.

jjewel thank you ... do this strive in dry and wet season? i live in the Caribbean.

elainejk Oh, my - lucky you! I live in Ohio - and they do just fine. Pachysandra does well in low light or shade and boxwood goes anywhere. Check w/ your local greenhouse or online for specific growing habits. Good Luck!

What Houzz contributors are saying:
Subtle contrast. The amazing sweep of Pachysandra terminalis and Buxus in this garden shows us why the sole use of foliage plants can be so dramatic. Though both plants will flower, the whole emphasis of the design is the wonderful contrast of subtle leaf color and texture.
Stick With One UndertoneWhen combining textures, it is best to start out with plants that have the same undertones. Combining blue and yellow undertones is tricky business, so stick with one or the other. This combination offers textural differences with a yellow undertone.
Planting notes.Soil should be moist and well drained; Pachysandra prefers acidic soils but can tolerate neutral and slightly alkaline soils.Edge the boundaries of the area where you are planting to prevent spreading.Place the plants about 8 inches apart. If you are anxious to get complete coverage right away, you may plant them closer together, but patience (that is, waiting a few years for them to get established) can save you a lot of money.Water the area and gently add a layer of mulch.Make sure the soil is moist and well drained. After a few years, you'll have a dense cover. Don't let it get too dense; thin the plants if necessary.

Pachysandra. Want to outline a large portion of the backyard With a hedge and contrast like this. Want to make it so the dog cannot get out. The rest of the design I want to look natural. Plenty of color!!!! Ground cover for the seasons. Cut flowers, peonies, mums, daisies - perennials!!! Love flowering bushes and flowering vines. Babies breath, heather, purples, reds, yellow, orange, blue. Grasses both thick leaves and fine. I love ferns.
