dbax Thank you so much for your prompt and helpful reply! The house is beautiful, and I am thrilled to finally see a color that I am interested in on western red cedar. I read an earlier post stating that the color is a custom mix of Dune Gray and Beechwood Grey Cabot stain. Is this semi-transparent, or semi-solid? I have read elsewhere that many contractors are not happy with the durability of the semi-solid Cabot stain. What is your opinion on this? Lastly, I would like to compliment you on your designs. The ones I like most when browsing on Houzz all seem to be yours!!
Is there a term that describes the varying shingle exposure sizes? - Really like the look of the small exposure every 4-5 rows and having a hard time communicating this to my siding contractor. Any idea if this could be accomplished with Hardiplank or Hardishingle? Thanks. »
Charlie Simmons - Charlie & Co. Design, Ltd. no. we have sloped metal pans in the valleys that funnel water to built-in water management in the landscaping. there is a rain garden along the front face of the overhang that absorbs the run off from the roof.
Katherine Likely I like the weathered gray reminds me of the wharf - but keep with that theme for railings. You don't want to stand out with magony - that would be like wearing a striped multi colored vertical skirt with a polka dot top - does't work.
The first deck - I have no idea who builds it or the company that produced it.
Love this house design! Any chance you could post first floor layout? - We are adding a second story to a 1950's ranch in Boston and love this exterior design, and kitchen. We would really be interested in the rest of the first floor plan to see if we could retrofit our ranch like this. Thank you - really admire your work. »
Adding windowboxes can give new construction a few years in age. Add a few more hanging plants and rocking chairs, and people will start to wonder if this is a new build or a turn of the century home.
