Framed wainscot. Taking wood and creating a frame you fill is another very traditional option. In place of wainscot, you can get long slender ceramic tiles and orient them to look like it. For instance, with a 12 in wide frame, placing 12 in long by 2 inch tiles side by side creates the same aesthetic, however the gloss against the wood creates a nice contrast
