Anne DeCocco Using a black out lining on those woven wood shades will make them room darkening. Black out lining comes in many options now, so have your seamstress show you the choices. This treatment is beautifully done.

dezingal Sweetpea, Most valances cover the front (face) and two sides of the blind (called returns). It mounts to the wall and is typically hung slightly above the matchstick blind to cover blind hardware and the top of the window frame. Then the drapery panels will be hung above on a rod and stackback outside the returns. The drapery panel itself will provide light blocking as it's the edge of windows where blind meets window sill that allows light in. Hope this helps.
