Would 11x12 work? - This is a wonderful layout. Do you think it would work in a kitchen with dimensions of 11x12'? I am building a small condo with fantastic views and like the idea of the windows with a cabinet wall on the opposite side. I appreciate your taking the time to respond. »
Rochman Design-Build Inc. That kitchen is about 10'x13', from the back wall to the edge of the countertop. If your kitchen is similarly open to another space, you could make this layout work. If it is all enclosed, dumping the peninsula seating would still give you a nice layout.
mschreckiam Another related question and thank you so much for your reply. I want to do caesarstone countertop with a square mitred edge. I am thinking 2.5-3" front. Most places are saying 2". Is is about weight, cost, etc. I think 1 or 2" counter top looks too little. I am looking at a shaker door front that is about 3"- 31/4" wide frame around it. What is your experience and design feeling? Thank you!
Rochman Design-Build Inc. Are you talking about the overhang of countertop beyond the cabinet on the side with the doors? We generally use 1 1/2" beyond the front of the cabinet carcass as our rule of thumb. This extends the countertop beyond the doors, but not so much that it gets in the way. Too far out, and it begins to get in the way of opening and using top drawers.
Besides functionality, there is a cost associated with it. Countertops are sold on a square footage basis. The bigger the overhang, the more material you need. Depending on the layout and the material, those extra inches can add up and strongly impact the overall cost.
