We like Waterstone for a number of reasons, but one of the great things about the pot filler is that is has a back plate, which helps to make the installation level and true. (Otherwise you are depending upon the pipe fitting, which is rarely level!)

That's a hard question to answer, without seeing your house. It depends upon the size of your home, and it depends on how many places in the house you can see both floors at once. There are no rules that say everything in your home has to be same, but mixing 2 wood floors means picking woods that complement rather than fight each other, and using other finishes that go with both the light and the dark flooring. I guess my rule would be that if you are worried about it, you probably don't want to do it--or at least it might be a good idea to get a professional opinion before you go ahead.

We purchased it locally here in California from one of our Mexican import firms, so I’m told it’s generally not available nationally. These cabinets were custom designed by our firm and then built by a high-quality cabinet company in Pennsylvania called Christiana Cabinetry (610-593-5870). Christiana provided the cabinets already finished, so this photo reflects one of their proprietary formulas for cabinet colors. (The "hand" feel on furniture grade cabinets is amazing.) The wood specie is furniture maple, the paint color is a warm white, and the glaze is brown, with minimal hang-up. The island cabinets (not shown in this photo, but visible in other posted photos of this kitchen) are done in Alder wood with a dark Walnut stain. Good luck with your kitchen.

Design Moe Kitchen & Bath / Heather Moe designer As a kitchen designer, I appreciate the convenience of having "standard" measurements for things like kitchen counters and range hoods and yes, the height of a pot filler. The first time I specified one, it would have been a relief to discover a recommended standard height. But now that we're comfortable with using them, we've also discovered that standards work in general, not in the specific. We're all different, and a luxury "add-on" convenience such as a pot-filler is going to work best if it's customized as much as possible to fit it's homeowner and the homeowner's kitchen.

One modification, for example, is to install the pot-filler to the side of the range, instead of on the wall directly behind it. By moving the pot-filler over about 10-12" to one side, we can install a small bar sink (very small- maybe 8-10"-) under it. This allows us to have not just a pot- filler at the range-top, but a drain for pot-emptying as well. And if we install a bar sink with an integrated, removable cutting board top (one that sits flush with the countertop), then the pot filler and drain don't interrupt the important counter space near the cooking area.

Although I have to say that I have been happy with some of the engineered stones. They don't have the dynamic look of natural stone, but they have a certain calm, solid-color feeling that is unlike granite. You might try Silestone's "Merope"; it doesn't have the same veining, but it has a similar brown background.

ncouzens i am pretty sure that's kosmos granite. its gorgeous - also comes in metallic shades of grey, just stunning. but it is soft and might scratch pretty easily - we nixed it for the kitchen after a key, knife, even just a heavily banged pot all nicked and scratched the granite. also the edge here is not always avail with kosmos, some fabricators avoid more elaborate edges like ogee, etc because the kosmos granite has a risk of crumbling when they cut it. i was once in a granite yard and they had 7 -10 slabs of crumbled kosmos piled up, it just fell apart in transit. but it is gorgeous...

These cabinets were custom designed and built by a high-end cabinet company in Pennsylvania, so these colors are their proprietary finishes. In this case we used a maple cabinet, with a warm white paint/brown glaze (mostly removed --i.e. with very little hang-up on the faces) for the perimeter, and we used an alder cabinet, walnut-colored stain/black glaze finish for the island cabinets.
