lsgrowney How wide is the hood over the cooktop and was it hard to find the hood liner (ventilation and lights) to go underneath?

In this kitchen the clients opted for a 36” gas cooktop, which we found to be somewhat smaller than what we had expected to be using in this large, 24’ x 24’ kitchen. To give it the cooktop area a little more eye appeal, we increased the width of the hood cabinet above to 48” wide, and we specified a 46.5” wide x 14” deep hood insert that was slightly overpowered. (It’s easy enough to find the hood inserts that fit into custom surrounds: all of the major cooking equipment companies (Wolf, Viking, Dacor, etc.) make hood inserts, and there are also hood manufacturers that you may have heard of (Imperial, Fujioh) that specialize in making hood inserts for the designer market. Just remember to start with the hood insert and design around it, rather than starting with the hood surround and then trying to find an insert.)

Neither surface in this kitchen is granite; the island is Jerusalem Limestone as Donna pointed out, and the cooking area is Emporador Dark Marble, Polished, with a 2.25" double ogee edge detail. They both look beautiful, it's true, but as I've mentioned in other replies on this subject, please talk to your stone fabricators about the challenges of marble countertops before deciding on surfaces such as these.
