Design Moe Kitchen & Bath / Heather Moe designer This kitchen was a challenge originally because the existing home trusses limited us to a ceiling height of just 9'. We were lucky enough to have the architect and the client agree to adding the higher coffered area in the center (which involved rebuilding the roof ), but the area below the coffer remained at our original 108" high. If you look closely at the range hood, you can see that the design would really prefer a higher ceiling.
Design Moe Kitchen & Bath / Heather Moe designer Thanks for the positive comments. The cabinets were made by a high-end Pennsylvania company called Christiana Cabinetry; they are fully custom. The small upper cabinets on each side of the window have seeded glass in the doors, with wrought iron detail added over the glass, and halogen "puck" lights inside, under the lid. The tempered glass shelves inside are intended for displaying crystal glasses or decorative dishware.
Kitchen sink.... - Can you please give me information on the sink. I just love the whole look of the kitchen. Is the marble a red tone or more brown? I used a granite called Earth Fire which looks very similar. »
shoppermom Thank you for the information. The slab was just poured for our new home so I am busy with all of my selections at this time. Your design is one of my inspiration pieces!

Design Moe Kitchen & Bath / Heather Moe designer Hi ilovelife. In answer to your question about the ironwork on the upper cabinets, we had these pieces of wrought iron custom made for this application. We used a local company that specialized in ironwork, and we requested the smallest, "standard size" iron bar. As it turned out, it wasn't that expensive, and because we screwed them onto the cabinet rails and stiles,we had plenty of wiggle room in the sizes. I've also used a product called "Faux Iron " for the same application when I need a lighter product. Faux Iron is made of stained resin, and it looks fairly authentic.
How high does the ceiling rise? - How high does the ceiling rise in the coffer? Was the design an octagon or a traditional trey ceiling that looks like an octagon because of the moldings? This ceiling is beautiful and we have a similar space we are trying to work with but I'm not sure how to explain the design to the engineers. »
Layer your lighting. "In the last five years we’ve seen a huge change in the way that our clients look at kitchen lighting," notes Heather Moe of Design Moe Kitchen & Bath. "While function is still important, we now layer the lighting to give homeowners an extraordinary flexibility of effect. We routinely have seven levels of illumination: countertop and general lighting, under-cabinet task lighting, over-cabinet up lighting, accent cabinet lighting, some supporting sconce fixtures (mounted on walls or on cabinets), ceiling lighting and — to top it all off — a central accent fixture, usually something pretty and eye catching at the room’s focal point.""Because the chandelier is not the primary source of illumination, it has instead become the cherry in the sundae. As a result, we've found that we can get a little more whimsical, a little sillier. And in a special, decorative kitchen such as this Rancho Santa Fe interior, there’s nothing like the high-powered bling of a Swarovski crystal chandelier."
