Cherry tends to darken with age so bringing home samples is key. I do think if using the same species they should match when connecting rooms.

The choice for solid or engineered has more to do with the thickness. If the floor height is the same, you should use the same flooring style (solid vs. engineered). Is there a reason you want to do the engineered?

the solid straight edge is un-available pre-finished. The engineered can be set to hieght with sheets of plywood, and is pre-finished. I am selling my home soon... does the solid vs, engineered play a role in property value?

It may affect the value of your home if you are in the higher-end of the market where it would be competing against homes of the same finish qualities. If wood floors are considered an upgrade compared to other homes in your price range, then I do not believe it would affect the value going solid vs engineered.

I agree on using the same flooring style...I'm going with it.
