Coprosmas are native to New Zealand. They are very hardy plants in coastal ranges and can be quite drought tolerant, however, the father inland you are (keep in mind I'm writing from the San Francisco Bay Area) the less drought tolerant it is. Like all plants, they are only drought tolerant once established, particularly shrubs. They aren't know for tremendously deep root systems, but it is a low shrub so it would be more difficult to remove than say a perennial.

Thank you again. I live in the Okanagan Valley in British Columbia, Canada. Quite warm and dry here, bit we do have a winter. I will research the plant further as it pertains to this area. Appreciate your comments. Cheers

What material did you use for steps?

Hi Jennifer,
These stairs are constructed out of timber ties, which are a pressure treated wood material. Railroad ties used to be the material of choice for stairs like these, however they are extremely toxic, so now timber ties are readily available. Thanks for asking!
