Where do I get that amazing kitchen light? - I'm remodeling the entire house. We've got to decide on lighting thruout house even though the "big" kitchen remodel will come later. I'm doing Swedish style and this light is perfect for over the kitchen island--not too big but plenty of light (right? need to know the wattage and I want to use LED lights whenever possible) Thanks! »
Julia Bui I saw a similar chandelier at an antique store in Georgetown, Washington, DC and fell in love with it instantly. and then I saw a price tag... 14K!!!! Whooa! :-/
Here's another loose interpretation of the galley kitchen, since there appears to be base cabinets on the right foreground. But the sink, range and refrigerator are all on one wall, so it made the cut.
"It really works for our lifestyle, and I doubt I’ll ever go back to having cabinet doors," she says. "Emptying the dishwasher got so much easier, I love seeing my collection of dishware all the time, and guests are free to just grab what they need."

An island with metal legs and a laminate top keeps this kitchen light and airy, thus (the open shelves used in lieu of traditional cabinets have a similar effect). This is a great example of modernizing the cottage style.

The idea of giving a refrigerator a facelift with chalkboard paint is so inspiring. Do you have a functional fridge that could use an update? Here it is! Children will love drawing as you prepare meals, and you can't overlook the list-making possibilities.
7. Switch to nontoxic cleaners. Most of the time, it is unnecessary to use powerful cleaners on everyday household messes. If the mess you are cleaning up is less harmful than the product you are using to clean it, that's a clear sign you could scale back a bit. Especially with little ones in the house, it feels much safer to use natural cleaners on floors and counters. As with all of these ideas, there is room for moderation. There is no reason to trash all of your old standby cleaning products — just reserve them for occasional deep cleaning and times there has been an illness in the house.

I store canvas bags on the back of my apartment door so that I remember to bring them to the grocery store. Having an oversize bag to fit them all would help keep things organized.
