drmrslmh Thank you SO much! I can't believe my dream desk can be found at IKEA for so little. You made my day!
Thx again... & I love what you've done with your room by the way...
great office! is that a piece of plastic under the laptop...and where did you find it? we just completed an office and i don't want to put glass on the countertops but hadn't thought of another alternative. what you have here would work great for me. thank you. »
Anne DeCocco I'd head to a glass supplier for that piece. It could be a piece of plexiglass, which is a very useful product. Glass suppliers and frame shops can cut a piece to your specifications.
Hello!
LOVE the room! Ca you please tell me where you got the shelving unit behind the desk? It is a nice alternative to having another table-it saves a lot of space!
Thanks!!

Nicole Lanteri Hi! Thanks for your question! The white shelf behind the desk is actually just the long Lack shelf from Ikea that is attached to three brackets that are anchored into the wall. I really liked how it was a place for supplies but not a whole table that took up precious space. It still feels light and airy and very functional. The black shelf in the corner is an antique bar cart that I found at the Georgetown Flea Market in Washington, DC. Hope this helps!
dmez This is a great space and I'm using it for inspiration for my own home office. The LACK shelf you've used as an auxiliary work surface...is it the 74 inch version? I purchased the Torsby dining room table and matching sideboard (Ikea) and then saw your office. It's great! So I sent my husband to Ikea on a business trip and he purchased the LACK shelf but it is longer than desk. My room is similar in shape, it is a bit smaller and I have a twin bed to the right of the desk. Will it look odd? How far away from the wall should it be to look 'right'? Another question - why did you use L-brackets with a floating shelf? Previous experience? I have a feeling your walls may be like mine and the studs do not correspond with the openings on the hidden wall bracket. Also picked up a hanging shelf with drawers for office supplies. Any advice on centering it below the long floating shelf or will having the two together ruin the airy effect? Thoughts?
I like the decorative brackets under the shelves. - Can you please tell me about them? Also interested to know the size of the room if you have that information. So many great ideas in this space! I am inspired! »
Try a triptych. If you have several different projects going on, or several different areas of your life you want to keep separate, try giving each one a board of its own.
Home offices are a must for an increasing number of people, but what about the cords? Managing clutter is a constant battle and cord organization a never ending tangle, but new wireless components, home services, cloud based computing and good old-fashioned cord management will help keep the technology working for you.
Pull the desk away from the wall and face the room. There's nothing less productive than sitting at a desk that faces the wall when when you find yourself in a creative rut. Pulling your workspace away from the perimeter enables you to look up and enjoy the beautiful room you've come up with.
Hang bulletin and dry-erase boards. Office life is full of important papers and quick ideas, and you want accessible places to put them before they escape into the ether. Instead of cluttering your desk with papers and throwing ideas on easy-to-lose Post-Its, do yourself a favor and put a bulletin board and dry-erase board within easy reach.
